A Bit About Me

My name is Drew March. I’ve lived in East Tennessee since 2008. I’m originally from North Carolina, but my family’s roots run deep in Erwin, TN. Baking isn’t my primary job, and if you had told me a year or two ago that I would be opening a cottage bakery, I would definitely have given you a funny look. But I started dabbling in making bread with commercial yeast. A little while after that, my friend Carter shared some of his sourdough starter with me. The thought of making sourdough started out as a little intimidating, but once I got into it, I quickly became hooked. I love the science and artistry to it. I love that it takes time. Creating something of worth should take time. So now, you can usually find me on the weekends in the middle of a pile of flour trying to create something of worth for my family and my customers.
Where did the name Bison and Bee come from?
So, my dad was an apiarist in his free time before he passed away in 2023. He had quite the setup and would always give us jars of honey whenever he had some on hand. I now have a few of his hive boxes and am looking forward to being attacked by a swarm of angry bees at some undetermined point in the future.
As far as the bison? I’ve always liked them. Strong and wild. Whenever I retire from my primary job, I would like to try my hand at raising some.
So, a nod to the past with the bees. A look to the future with the bison. But Drew, that’s a bison AND a bee. Not the weird creature you have plastered all over your marketing. What can I say? I like quirky stuff. Which is also why I make AI-generated bluegrass music about sourdough and the bison-bee. Go listen to it on my Bandcamp page in my Quick Links!
Anyway, thank you for visiting. I would love to make something of worth for you.
